Però ora che, ahimè, ormai
rientro in questa categoria anagrafica, devo dire che comincio ad ascoltare
volentieri quella musica.
Per questo apprezzo
oltremodo questa opera monumentale che racchiude un sacco di inediti e rarità
del genere.
Novantadue pezzi, distribuiti su 4 CD, con i
quali la Cherry Red Records celebra la scena Mod a partire dallo scioglimento
dei Jam, il cui ultimo show risale al dicembre 1982, fino al 2000.
Non a caso la raccolta inizia proprio con gli
Style Council, la band con cui Paul Weller riprese a suonare dopo i Jam.
In tutto, comunque, quattro CD che raccolgono
bands che propongono a volte musica soul, altre volte beat, altre (garage)
rock, altre ancora una miscela di questi generi, con un occhio di riguardo agli
Who e alla band di Paul Weller.
Spiccano tra tutti i nomi di Style Council,
Corduroy e Prisoners, ma si segnalano anche i Redskins.
Segnalo senza dubbio i The Truth di Dennis Greaves, ex cantante dei Nine Below Zero, con “A
Step In The Right Direction”, un
classicone molto piacevole con sfumature Pop, la
ballatona “I Love You
Like I Love Myself” dei Playn Jayn, ma anche gli Aardvarks di “You’re My Loving Way”
E poi ci sono anche i Barracudas, che mi
piacevano già molto tempo fa, e che qua ritrovo con “Next Time Around”, un brano più sporco della media.
Certo, non tutti i brani sono capolavori, ma
in linea di massima si tratta di una collezione che può essere messa nel
lettore e allietare la serata per alcune ore senza dover skippare niente.
