The
Adolescents’ self-titled 1981 LP is definitely one of my first hardcore loves.
It was one of the first records of the genre I started listening to at 15,
together with my friends and partners in (mis)adventure.
A
true milestone in my musical upbringing.
It’s
a record I literally wore out, to the point of knowing by heart even the
crackles of the vinyl between one track and the next.
It
includes songs that have become immortal: “I Hate Children,” “Kids of the Black Hole”, “No Way”, “Amoeba” (which even made it into
the soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto V, so much so that years later I took my son
to see one of their unforgettable live sets in Campi Bisenzio in 2016), and “Democracy.”
And
if I have to pick a few favorites, it’s only for the sake of brevity, because
even the tracks I didn’t mention, like “L.A. Girl” or “Creatures,” hit just as hard.
A
raw, direct, no-frills record. But above all, a real one.
The
kind that never leaves you.
And
if any of you haven’t listened to it yet, you’d better fix that immediately.
