SECOND YOUTH “DEAR ROAD” (CD, 2018, INDIEBOX MUSIC / DEMONS RUN AMOK RECORDS, 3/5)

I don't know much about Second Youth, except that they are Sardinians, and that "Dear Road" is their first work on long distance, despite the fact that the two "founding members", Dick Smith (The Legacy, Runes) and Andre' Suergiu (The Gold Kids), have been around for years now.

Ten songs, which sound very end of the 90's hardcore, full of melody and Punk rock attitude of the one without frills that comes right away, between Rancid, Ignite and GG Allin.

I like very much "1992", which introduces an appreciable ska variant, and the melody of "Suzanne", even if the songs I prefer are "Dear Road", dragging and involving with his "Sha la la la la la la" and that acoustic guitar touch that makes the piece even more captivating, but above all the very tight "This City".

Rancid style vocals are certainly a distinctive trait of the quintet based somewhere between London and Sardinia.

But in my opinion this tires a bit in the end, becoming the only flaw of the album, which, incidentally, is co-produced by the very Italian (and always valid) Indiebox and the German Demons Run Amok, usually dedicated to a more extreme Hardcore, and this time opens to a band that has a good international credit.

RECENSIONE SECOND YOUTH “DEAR ROAD” (CD, 2018, INDIEBOX MUSIC / DEMONS RUN AMOK RECORDS, 3/5)

Non so molto dei Second Youth, se non che sono sardi, e che “Dear Road” è il loro primo lavoro sulla lunga distanza, nonostante il fatto che i due “soci fondatori”, Dick Smith (The legacy, Runes) e Andre’ Suergiu (The Gold Kids), siano in giro ormai da anni.

Dieci i brani proposti, che fanno molto hardcore fine anni 90, ricchi di melodia e attitudine Punk rock di quello senza fronzoli che ti piglia subito, tra Rancid, Ignite e GG Allin.

Mi piace molto “1992”, che introduce una apprezzabile variante ska, e la melodia di “Suzanne”, anche se i brani che preferisco sono “Dear Road”, trascinante e coinvolgente con il suo “Sha la la la la la” e quel tocco di chitarra acustica che rende il pezzo ancora più accattivante, ma soprattutto la tiratissima “This City”.

La voce à la Rancid è sicuramente un tratto distintivo del quintetto Sardo Londinese, ma a mio giudizio alla fine un po’ stanca, trasformandosi nell’unico neo del disco, che, per inciso, è coprodotto dalla Italianissima (e sempre valida) Indiebox e dalla tedesca Demons Run Amok, solitamente dedita a un Hardcore più estremo, e stavolta aperta ad una band che ha comunque un buon credito internazionale.
